The scent of incense hangs heavy in the air. It’s a familiar comfort here at the Arafa Islamic Center.
Arafa Islamic Center a vibrant hub of faith in Jamaica Queens began its journey in 2006. A small group of dedicated Muslim brothers laid the foundation for this now thriving community. Their dream a place of worship and gathering is almost realized.
Today the Arafa Islamic Center operates in the basement of two retail stores. It’s a testament to the community’s unwavering spirit. Despite the cramped quarters it comfortably accommodates around 400 worshippers. Separate prayer areas for men and women ensure a reverent atmosphere. The center offers daily prayers and Friday Jummah prayers. Weekend classes for children fill the space with youthful energy. Adults find solace in Quranic Tajweed classes. Sisters gather for Quranic education classes. Ramadan brings a special buzz with Khatm-e-Taraweeh and Iftar arrangements.
But the Arafa Islamic Center’s current location presents challenges. It’s operating at maximum capacity. The basement setting has resulted in building code violations. There’s an urgent need for a new building a more spacious and safe environment for the growing congregation. Plans for a new Islamic center are underway. This new building will feature multiple floors including spacious prayer halls for men and women. There will be dedicated classrooms a kitchen and ample parking.
The Arafa Islamic Center is more than just a place of worship. It’s a cornerstone of the community a beacon of faith. It’s a symbol of resilience and hope for a future where everyone can worship safely and comfortably. This community is striving to create a dynamic center rooted in Islamic values. Your visit here today is a chance to witness this faith in action. Your support in this endeavor is invaluable. Your donation will truly make a difference. Let’s help build a brighter future together at the Arafa Islamic Center.
