In 2006, two schools, “Linus Pauling” and “Nelly Sachs,” merged. This created the Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium. The school quickly became important in Treptow-Köpenick. The school’s namesake, Emmy Noether, was a renowned mathematician. Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium honors her legacy. The school offers a unique program. It allows students to individualize their learning. Some can even graduate earlier. The school’s history is intertwined with another school, the Evangelische Schule Köpenick. When it moved into the Nelly-Sachs-Oberschule building in 2006, Nelly-Sachs-Oberschule had to relocate. Declining student numbers led to its merger with Linus-Pauling-Oberschule, forming Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium. Finding a new name was a collaborative effort. Students, parents, and teachers researched and proposed names. After two years, Emmy Noether was chosen. The school offers science-focused courses like geography, mathematics, chemistry, and physics. These subjects connect to Noether’s research. Emmy Noether was known for supporting gifted students. Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium continues this tradition with its individualized learning paths. Noether’s life is incorporated into lessons. The school participates in the “School without Racism – School with Courage” project. The merger of two schools broadened the curriculum. Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium offers English, French, Latin, and Spanish. Students can choose from nine advanced courses. These include German, English, French, history, geography, mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry. The school promotes independent learning through “Pädagogische Schulentwicklung.” This includes training in methods, teamwork, communication, and MSA preparation. Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium engages in various projects. One is “School without Racism – School with Courage.” Partners include 1. FC Union Berlin, a Deutsche Bank director, and a Holocaust survivor. The school also has a student council hour, an anti-discrimination group, a sports night, and environmental initiatives. It was recognized as an Environmental School in Europe in 2020.
