Neve David Cemetery is more than just a final resting place. It’s a historical tapestry woven with threads of ancient civilizations and modern narratives. The cemetery sits at the mouth of Wadi Shih, a valley that has witnessed the passage of countless generations. Did you know that the area around Neve David Cemetery holds traces of settlements dating back 8,000 years? Archaeological surveys and excavations have unearthed a treasure trove of artifacts. These artifacts reveal a rich history. A prehistoric site, known as Neve David, lies at the mouth of Nahal Shih. This site, excavated by the University of Haifa in 1984, has yielded remarkable finds from the Stone Age. Imagine tools fashioned from flint, bones, and deer antlers, remnants of a life lived thousands of years ago. One of the most significant discoveries at Neve David is a grave containing the skeleton of a man aged 25-30. This grave is considered one of the oldest known burials. The discovery provides a glimpse into the burial practices of the Kabbar culture. Further down King Solomon Street, two graves from the Middle Bronze Age (2400-2000 BC) were discovered. These bell pit graves contained pottery typical of the coastal region during that period. A Byzantine-era vat and a kiln for ceramic vessel production were also found nearby, further enriching the historical tapestry of Neve David Cemetery. The cemetery itself is a more recent addition to the landscape, established in 1951. It began as a transit point. Residential construction commenced in 1956.
