Perhaps a story of resilience echoes within the walls of the Sephardic Lebanese Congregation. This congregation is a beacon of tradition for Lebanese Jews. It stands as a testament to their enduring spirit.

The Sephardic Lebanese Congregation was founded in the 1980s. Dr. Isaac Madeb provided the leadership. Rabbi Eliyahu Elbaz offered spiritual guidance with Mr. Albert Mohadeb’s expertise. Together they fostered a thriving community. The congregation grew to include over 300 families. That means over 2,000 people found a spiritual home here.

Before the congregation was founded, many Lebanese Jews resettled. This was during the early 1970s. They went to countries like Israel and Brazil. Some went to Panama and Mexico. Others found new homes in Canada and America.

The traditions of the Sephardic Lebanese Congregation trace back to Beirut. Rabbi Yaakov Attieh and Hacham Shahud Schrem led the community there. Their synagogue was named Magen Avraham. It was in the Abu Wadi Jamil section of Beirut. This is where most of the Kehilah lived.

Today the Sephardic Lebanese Congregation emphasizes Torah study. Prayer or Tefilah is very important. So is acts of kindness called Gemilut Hasadim. The congregation offers daily prayers and classes. Shabbat programs cater to all ages. Many community events happen throughout the year.

Kol Eliyahu is the name of the orthodox synagogue. It is part of the Sephardic Lebanese Congregation. The Zeitoune family generously sponsored the name in 2007. The Sephardic Lebanese Congregation stands as a pillar. It preserves Lebanese Jewish heritage in Brooklyn. It is located at 805 Avenue T, Brooklyn, NY. It continues to grow. It enriches the lives of its members. It ensures the traditions thrive for generations.
