High above Seoul, Yongma Mountain beckons with its trails and views. Its name translates to “Dragon Horse Mountain”. Let’s discover its secrets together.

Yongma Mountain is more than just a peak. It is a place steeped in history and offering stunning panoramas. With an elevation of 348 meters, Yongma Mountain is the highest peak of Achasan Mountain. The mountain stretches through Manguri Park and Junggok-dong. Trails connect it to Achasan Mountain Fortress. These trails also lead to the back gate of Children’s Grand Park.

Imagine hiking here in the evening. The glittering lights of Seoul spread before you. You can spot iconic landmarks. Lotte Tower, Namsan Tower, and the Han River sparkle in the distance.

Yongma Waterfall Park is a highlight. It features the tallest waterfall in eastern Seoul. It is also the largest artificial waterfall in Asia. The Yongma Waterfall is the tallest. It is between 3 and 10 meters wide. It boasts a height of 51.4 meters. Cheongyong Waterfall is on the left. Baekma Waterfall is on the right. They are 21 and 21.4 meters high, respectively.

Want to reach the peak? Start at Yongma Waterfall. Walk past the rock climbing wall. Head up the wooden steps on the right. Follow the sign for “Yongmabong”. Continue past the basketball court. You will soon reach the hiking trail. Don’t worry if you feel lost. Just follow the crowd.

The hike to the peak is 1.3km. You will walk up stone paths and stairs. Several viewing points offer rest and reward. Follow the path marked “Yongmasan Station” down. This route takes about one hour.

The trails can be tricky. Many smaller paths intersect. Look out for pink or red ribbons. These markers guide you.

For the adventurous, Yongma Mountain connects to Achasan Mountain. This longer hike takes 2-3 hours. Remember to bring water and a snack.

Sagajeong Park is another notable spot. It opened in 2005. The park is named after Sagajeong. He was a prominent man of letters from the Joseon Dynasty. He lived near Yongma Mountain. Four of his poems are engraved on stone pillars in the park. Visitors can read and reflect on them. The park includes picnic areas, a playground, and exercise equipment. A traditional-style gazebo also stands here.
