The Liebespaar Sculpture features two figures. A man and a woman are locked in a loving embrace. The woman leans against the man. His arm gently encircles her neck. A handkerchief drapes around her legs. This adds a layer of intimacy to the scene.

It was a gift to Guben. The sculpture marked the 1985 World Day of Peace. It also celebrated Guben’s 750th anniversary. The Liebespaar Sculpture is more than just art. It symbolizes unity and hope.

The Liebespaar Sculpture emerged from the 6th Sculpting Symposium in Hoyerswerda. Artists from socialist countries participated. Under Jürgen von Woyski’s guidance, they explored “Experimental Friendship”. Each artist brought a unique perspective. They addressed important aspects of human connection.

Friedemann Klos created this artwork. He was born in Stopl, Poland, in 1929. Klos passed away in Dresden, Germany, in 2000. His journey included stonemasonry and studies at Burg Giebichenstein Halle. He also studied at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art. Klos’s travels to the Soviet Union, Romania, India, and Greece enriched his artistic vision.

Critics have noted how the figures seem to emerge from stone. The man lovingly embraces the woman. Both figures emanate peace. The Liebespaar Sculpture invites contemplation. What does such anatomical reality mean? It encourages us to reflect on love.

Standing before the Liebespaar Sculpture, consider its message. It reminds us of love’s power. It speaks of peace and friendship. It captures a moment of shared emotion. The Liebespaar Sculpture stands as a testament to human connection.
