A colossal granite figure dominates the landscape. This is Sri Rama Anjaneya Temple in Chennai. It’s not just a temple. It’s a testament to faith.

The Sri Rama Anjaneya Temple in Chennai houses a 32-foot tall Hanuman statue. This magnificent idol carved from a single piece of granite is the second tallest in all of India. It was installed in 1989 consecrated in 1995. The Sri Maruthi Bhaktha Samajam Trust spearheaded the project. Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswati mahaswamiji of Kanchi Mutt oversaw the consecration.

The temple’s main shrine is a sight to behold. The 90-foot tall tower houses Anjaneya. He faces west. The main entrance is on the west side. A southern entrance is used during festivals. Spacious walkways encircle the sanctum. A large mandapam offers ample space for worshipers.

Beyond Hanuman’s shrine are others dedicated to significant deities. To the northwest stands Kodanda Rama. He’s depicted with his bow signifying his role as protector. To the southwest you’ll find Lord Krishna with Rukmini and Satyabhama. This is unusual in Anjaneya temples. It highlights Hanuman’s presence in both the Ramayana and Mahabharata. In the northeast Vinayaka and Naga are housed. Saint Raghavendra also has a shrine near Lord Krishna.

The temple’s management has seen a change. Initially run by the Sri Maruthi Bhaktha Samajam Trust. Allegations of financial irregularities led to the Hindu Religious and Charity Endowment Department taking over in 2013.

This temple is more than just stone and mortar. It’s a place of profound spiritual significance. It’s a place where devotion echoes through the ages. A visit to Sri Rama Anjaneya Temple is a journey into the heart of faith. A journey that leaves a lasting impression. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.
