Twenty years ago the Frédéric Back Tree Pavilion opened. It’s nestled within Montreal’s Botanical Garden. This isn’t just any pavilion. It’s a celebration of trees. A tribute to their beauty their importance.

The pavilion itself is a marvel. It’s built to showcase the Arboretum’s vast collection of trees. It harmoniously blends with its surroundings. Its design doesn’t overwhelm the natural beauty. It enhances it.

In 2016 a special exhibition called Three for Trees graced the pavilion. Three artists – an artist a biologist and a physician – collaborated. Their unique perspectives celebrated trees in art science and health. Alain Massicotte’s paintings captured the vibrant colours of trees throughout the year. Michel Leboeuf described their incredible ecological wealth. François Reeves highlighted how essential trees are for our well-being.

The pavilion’s location is significant. It’s near an artificial pond. This pond was once a swampy mess. It’s now a beautifully restored wetland. The restoration involved careful planning. They considered oxygen levels sunlight and wind. Native plants were strategically planted. Floating islands filter the water. The design even includes a waterfall.

The Frédéric Back Tree Pavilion isn’t just a place to admire trees. It’s a place for reflection. It’s a place to learn. It’s a place to connect with nature. It’s a testament to human creativity. It’s a harmonious integration of art science and nature. It’s a unique Montreal treasure.
