“Lee Shin Cheng.” Does that name ring a bell? It should because he is the namesake of this school. We are standing in front of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Shin Cheng. It is located in Jalan Kasawari 11, Bandar Puchong Jaya. Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Shin Cheng is a national-type primary school.
Previously, this school was called Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Ladang Harcroft. It was located in Ayer Tawar, Manjung. But the school moved to Bandar Puchong Jaya in 2011. This relocation happened because there were not enough students in the original location.
The school changed its name to Shin Cheng in honor of Lee Shin Cheng. He founded the IOI Group and provided the new school site. Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Shin Cheng became a popular school in Puchong. It attracted many students due to a shortage of Chinese vernacular schools in the area.
In 2009, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Ladang Harcroft had 1,149 students. There were 611 boys and 538 girls. The school had 42 teachers.
Several headmasters have led SJK(C) Shin Cheng. Tan Hock Guan served from 2008 to 2013. Ng Ean Hooi was the headmaster from 2013 to 2020. Chee Fooi Foon held the position from 2020 to 2024. The current headmaster, since 2024, is Kuan Muk Lang.
