In 2017, the Kannon Bosatsu statue journeyed to San Diego. The Japanese Friendship Garden accepted the statue. The board organized funding for its restoration. Jill Hari, a metals conservator, undertook the task.

Standing 12 feet high and weighing nearly three tons, the bronze Kannon Bosatsu statue depicts Kannon on a lotus throne. The right hand is raised to bestow fearlessness. The left hand rests open to support a lotus blossom, suggesting enlightenment.
