Can a school be more than bricks and mortar? At Houston Christian High School, the answer is a resounding yes. Houston Christian High School isn’t just a place of learning. It’s a crucible where students are forged into leaders, thinkers, and difference-makers. Founded in 1970 as Northwest Academy, Houston Christian High School has a rich history, evolving from its initial role to become a pillar of the community. In 1998, a significant transformation occurred. Northwest Academy split, giving rise to both First Baptist Academy and Houston Christian High School. This pivotal moment marked a new chapter for Houston Christian, as it sought to serve the growing western communities of Greater Houston. Construction of the current campus began shortly after, with the school opening its doors in 2000. The project, initially estimated at $20 million, was ultimately completed for $11 million. By 2001, enrollment had more than doubled, a testament to the school’s growing reputation. The campus itself is a sprawling 45-acre testament to the school’s commitment to providing a holistic education. Located near Spring Shadows, at the intersection of Beltway 8 and Kempwood Drive, Houston Christian High School boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a dedicated athletic complex completed in 2001. This complex houses a soccer field, a stadium, a gymnasium, weight and training rooms, and even a studio for the drill team and cheerleaders. Houston Christian High School’s dedication to leadership is further exemplified by the George and Barbara Bush Center for Scholars and Leaders, opened in 2012. This unique center, the only high school leadership center bearing the names of a U.S. President and First Lady, provides students with invaluable leadership training and access to a wealth of historical knowledge. The school’s commitment to academic excellence is evident in its faculty, nearly 70% of whom hold advanced degrees, and in its impressive alumni, who have gone on to achieve success in diverse fields. Houston Christian High School’s story is one of transformation, growth, and unwavering dedication to its students. It is a place where learning truly becomes leading.
