Craving a nostalgic trip back to childhood? Then you’ve come to the right place. I am about to tell you a story about the Tate-kun Museum here in Kyoto.

The Tate-kun Museum is not your typical museum. It is a small museum born in Kyoto Nishijin. It is a treasure trove of figures from the animations and shows that captured our imaginations as kids.

The Tate-kun Museum is housed in a refurbished Kyomachiya house. Inside, you will discover about 3000 figures of iconic characters. Think heroes and monsters. Think magical girls and robots. These are the characters who once graced our TV screens and filled our childhood with wonder.

Hideki Tate founded the Tate-kun Museum. As a child, he was captivated by animation, special effects, and transforming heroes. As an adult, he began collecting figures of these characters. This passion led him to renovate the second floor of his house. He created a space for others to rediscover their childhood joy.

The Tate-kun Museum offers a healing space. It is a place to reconnect with your inner child. It welcomes everyone. It welcomes those who grew up watching these shows. It welcomes those who are visiting Kyoto. It even welcomes international travelers. The museum’s mascot, Pu-chan, is always ready to greet you.

Visiting the Tate-kun Museum is easy. From Kyoto Station, take the city bus number 9. Get off at Imadegawa. The museum is just a short walk east. Alternatively, you can take the Karasuma Subway Line to Imadegawa Station. From there, it is a seven-minute walk west. Please remember that there is no dedicated parking. Consider using public transport.

The Tate-kun Museum is open from 10:00 to 20:00. The last entry is at 19:00. Admission is inexpensive. It costs only ¥600 for adults and ¥300 for children.

Besides the figure collection, the Tate-kun Museum also has a unique web-manga series. “Tate-kun Museum!” blends fantasy with the true story of the museum’s creation. “Soyokaze Pu-chan” is a popular series within the web-manga.

The Tate-kun Museum is more than just a collection of figures. It is a place where memories are rekindled. It is a celebration of the stories and characters that shaped us. It is a reminder of the joy and wonder of childhood. Why don’t you go home with children? Tate-kun Museum is waiting for you!
