Welcome to the Ichibaku Nishinomiya Church a place with a humble yet inspiring beginning. It started just after World War II. Pastor Genjiro Yoshida and one believer prayed together in Ichibaku.
Amidst post-war chaos their worship grew. In February 1947 the church gained recognition. It became part of the Japan Christian Group. March 17th became the official founding day of the Ichibaku Nishinomiya Church.
The church’s origins trace back to the Ichibaku hermitage. Toyohiko Kagawa established this as part of the Japan Farmers’ Gospel School. Later a nursery facility was added next to the hermitage. This evolved into Ichibaku Nursery School.
Today Ichibaku Nishinomiya Church and Ichibaku Nursery School stand together. The land they occupy was purchased with the revenue. The revenue came from Toyohiko Kagawa’s bestseller novel “A Grain of Wheat”.
Ichibaku Nishinomiya Church and Ichibaku Nursery School continue the legacy. They embody Kagawa’s spirit of gospel and social service. This joint venture is known as Zen-Ichibaku.

In 2019 Ichibaku Nishinomiya Church dedicated a new sanctuary. This was after years of prayer and patience. This new chapter allowed the church to welcome more people.

The history of Ichibaku Nishinomiya Church dates back to 1964. A mission was established in August of that year. In January 1965 Pastor Shimojo was dispatched. Services were held in a small apartment.
In July 1965 the mission moved to a cultural residence. A new mission hall was dedicated on July 11th. In April 1968 the mission became known as Living Christ Ichibaku Nishinomiya Church.
The congregation moved to a house in Kamiokada in July 1968. A dedication service took place in October. It became a religious corporation in November 1970. In March 1975 the first church building was erected. A dedication ceremony was held in April. Ichibaku Nishinomiya Church continues to serve.
