Xã Bắc Sơn witnessed a pivotal event in 1940. The Bắc Sơn Uprising shone as a beacon of national pride. Now designated a Special National Relic, Xã Bắc Sơn has great importance. This recognition by the Prime Minister occurred in 2016.
The uprising was against colonialists. The Xã Bắc Sơn Uprising Historical Relic marks key revolutionary events. It includes the establishment of the first Party cell in Bắc Sơn from 1930 to 1936. It also highlights the fight for people’s rights and democracy. The establishment of the Bắc Sơn district Party Committee occurred between 1936 and 1939. The Bắc Sơn Uprising itself took place on September 27 1940. This ignited revolutionary fervor nationwide.
Moreover, the relic site showcases more historical moments. The establishment of the Bắc Sơn guerrilla base took place on October 16 1940. The birth of the Viet Minh Front prepared forces for the uprising from 1941 to 1945. The formation of the Bắc Sơn National Salvation Army happened in February 1941. It marks resistance against Japanese fascists to save the country. The uprising to seize power in 1945 culminated here.
During French resistance, ethnic groups united. They contributed manpower and materials to the revolution. This played a crucial role in liberating the homeland. The relic site provided safe haven. Senior government officials and the Northern Party Committee sought refuge here. It served as a communication station. It connected the Party Central Committee with the Northern Party Committee. It distributed documents for the Party’s revolutionary cadre training.
Nông Lục temple hosted a pivotal meeting. This meeting determined the timing of the Bắc Sơn Uprising. Mo Nhai outpost is close to the temple. The uprising forces attacked it to seize control from the French army on September 27 1940. Two rectangular stone house foundations remain. They stand about 1.5 meters tall. The Mo Nhai Victory Monument is located to the north of the hilltop.
From the Mo Nhai outpost, the French observed a vast area. This included Châu Vũ, Vũ Lăng, Bắc Sơn, and Trấn Yên commune. Its location on the main road from Bắc Sơn aided control. It oversaw activities throughout the Bắc Sơn district.
