Is there anything more peaceful than the tranquil surface of a lake? Here at Sinettäjärvi, the largest lake in the Rovaniemi region, you’ll find that peace personified. The name Sinettäjärvi can be a little confusing as it can refer to the whole lake or just the southeastern part. The northwestern part is known as Lehtojärvi. They are connected by a narrow channel called Sinetänsalmi, creating a lake that stretches an impressive 12.1 kilometers long. Don’t let the size intimidate you though, while it reaches depths of 40 meters in some places, much of Lehtojärvi is surprisingly shallow. Now, imagine yourself paddling across Sinettäjärvi’s crystal-clear water, the only sounds the gentle lapping of water against your boat, and the distant calls of birds. You might even spot some traditional Finnish houses dotting the shoreline, primarily around Lehtojärvi and Sinetänsalmi.
