Flensborg Yacht Club

Did you know there’s a little piece of Denmark nestled right here in Germany? It’s the Flensborg Yacht Club, the only Danish sailing club south of the German-Danish border. Flensborg Yacht Club sits in Mürwik, sharing the harbor with the German Segler-Vereinigung Flensburg. The drive down to the Flensborg Yacht Club is an adventure in itself. The road winds down Twedter Strandweg, through a peaceful residential area, before opening onto the club’s ample parking lot. You’ll likely see boats perched on the club’s slipway. Members tinker with their vessels. Even Danish friends of the club come to use these facilities. Behind a large boat hall, the youth section buzzes with activity. Optimist dinghies and other small sailboats await their weekly training sessions. The Flensborg Yacht Club clubhouse offers everything a sailor could want. There are restrooms, a race office, and club rooms. The “Sail In” restaurant provides stunning views of the harbor and Flensburg Fjord. Whether inside or on the terrace, a freshly tapped beer tastes exceptionally good after a day on the water. There’s even a covered barbecue area for club gatherings. The Flensborg Yacht Club’s jetty welcomes numerous boats, both members’ and visitors’. Some “guests” have stayed so long they’ve become part of the club’s fabric. Weekend visitors also contribute to the vibrant club life. The jetty is equipped with power and water hookups. Life jackets and ladders are readily available for emergencies. The Flensborg Yacht Club is a unique blend of Danish and German cultures. The languages intermingle on the jetty and in the clubhouse. A shared love of sailing on the beautiful Flensburg Fjord unites everyone.
