Beneath the sky of Berlin, stands the Ibrahim-al-Khalil-Moschee. It is more than just a building. It is a testament to faith and community.

The Ibrahim-al-Khalil-Moschee is located on Colditzstraße in Berlin-Tempelhof. Its name translates to “Abraham, the friend of God”. This reflects its role as a welcoming space for Muslims.

The Islamische Gemeinschaft Ibrahim Al Khalil Moschee – Berlin e. V. operates the mosque. The Ibrahim-al-Khalil-Moschee opened its doors in December 2013. Since then, it has served as a center for prayer and learning.

Inside the Ibrahim-al-Khalil-Moschee, you will find a spacious area. It measures approximately 2500 square meters. This provides ample room for daily prayers. Religious instruction also occurs within its walls.

However, the Ibrahim-al-Khalil-Moschee’s story is not without its challenges. In September 2015, the Berlin police conducted a search. Almost four hundred officers were involved. This event put the mosque under scrutiny.

Prior to the search, investigations were underway. Since 2014, the public prosecutor and the State Criminal Police Office of Berlin investigated Imam Abdel Qader D. from Morocco. He was suspected of inciting others. These others were allegedly incited to participate in the Syrian civil war. They were to fight alongside militant jihadist groups against the Assad regime.

Furthermore, the 2014 report by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution mentioned the Imam. He was accused of calling for terror and violence in his sermons. These allegations cast a shadow over the Ibrahim-al-Khalil-Moschee.

Despite the controversies, the Ibrahim-al-Khalil-Moschee continues to serve its community. It provides a space for worship and reflection. The mosque stands as a symbol. It represents the complex intersection of faith, culture, and politics in modern Berlin. The Ibrahim-al-Khalil-Moschee remains a focal point for its members.
