Marc Séguin created this stunning sculpture. He was born in Ottawa in 1970. Séguin earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University. He currently lives and works in Montreal and New York.
H Anima is part of the Humaniti real estate project. Cogir funded the project. Marc Séguin had carte blanche for its design.
Look closely at the branches and foliage. There are about 2000 aluminum panels. They are painted in many colors. They sway gently in the wind.
The sculpture measures 32 feet high. The structure fits on a real tree trunk. The trunk is cast in bronze. This makes it indestructible.
Notice the blade of black water at ground level. This adds another dimension to the sculpture. It reflects the colorful panels above.
Séguin’s career took off in 1996. His first individual exhibition showcased large-scale paintings. They had astonishing plastic proposals. Critics and collectors quickly noticed him.
In 1997, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal recognized his talent. They included his work in the group exhibition De fougue et de passion. In 2000, he had a personal exhibition at the museum. It featured large paintings on the theme of the medieval rose window.
This exhibition traveled to the Canadian Cultural Center in Paris in 2001. It then visited various Canadian cities in 2003. Séguin is not only a painter but also a gifted engraver.
