The soaring sound. That’s what first struck me about Changsin Church. A rich resonant sound filling the air. Not the usual church sound. This was different. This was Alcons.
Changsin Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to the evolving needs of a modern congregation. Built in 1936 this church needed an upgrade. Its sound system was outdated. The sermons were difficult to hear. The wiring was a visual eyesore.
A committee was formed. Jang Young-wook a church sound engineer and executive director of the Korean Church Acoustics Association consulted. He contacted eight leading audio system manufacturers. Each provided a solution within the same budget.
One key factor was aesthetics. The existing system was visually distracting. Baek Seung-hoon of Corelab wanted a solution that was both acoustically excellent and visually appealing. He carefully considered the chapel’s acoustics. He even made recordings of a sermon using the old system.
The Alcons pro-ribbon system was selected. It comprised six LR14/90 and six LR14/120 modules. There were also two LR14B bass modules four VR8 monitors and one CCS8 surround unit. This setup delivered high-quality even coverage throughout the chapel. Even under the balcony. No extra speakers were needed. That’s impressive.
Sky Sound faced a challenge. Installing the new system required custom wall brackets. The old system was difficult to remove. The new arrays needed a secure way to hang. Sky Sound solved this by building special brackets.
The impact was dramatic. Before the upgrade many couldn’t hear the sermons. The pastor strained his voice. Now everyone understands every word. The pastor’s voice is no longer strained. The visible wires and speakers are gone. The chapel looks beautiful.
The transformation of Changsin Church is more than just a technical upgrade. It’s a story of thoughtful planning meticulous installation and a commitment to both spiritual and sonic excellence. It demonstrates how technology can enhance the worship experience creating a comfortable and engaging space for everyone. Leaving worshippers free to fully focus on their faith. The rich sound now perfectly complements the sanctuary’s beauty. This is a church truly worth experiencing.
