The Werner-Alfred-Bad, located on Hegelallee 23, was built in 1913 and named after Werner Alfred Pietschker who was a famous aviator. The pool was a gift from Pietschker’s mother to the people of Potsdam as a tribute to her son who tragically died in a plane crash. The Werner-Alfred-Bad was once a popular public pool, but it was closed in 1992 and underwent a controversial renovation. The building now houses a health and rehabilitation center, but the original swimming pool no longer exists. The building’s design is a beautiful example of early 20th-century architecture. It’s also a testament to the enduring legacy of Werner Alfred Pietschker. Today, the Werner-Alfred-Bad still stands as a reminder of the importance of innovation, but also the tragedy of loss.
