Let’s dive into the history of Victory Presbyterian Church. On July 6 1980 Rev Do Geum Kim Rev Chang Seh Kim and Elder Daw Jeum Kim founded the church. Thirty-eight people gathered at 4213 Monroe St for the first worship service.
Just a week later on July 13 they organized Sunday School. This shows their commitment to education. The church registered with the state on November 20. They formed their first governing body on December 24.
In 1981 the Victory Presbyterian Church continued to grow. They organized a Women’s Group on January 11. A Youth Group followed on February 4 engaging the younger members. By November 22 they had a Young Adult Group.
There were changes too. In May 1981 Rev Do Geum Kim stepped down. New leaders and groups emerged shaping the church’s path.
The year 1984 brought more developments to Victory Presbyterian Church. Evangelist Gi Hyuk Kim began serving in February. In July the first deacons were ordained Dong Yoon Kim and Geun Sung Lee. By the end of the year a Men’s Group was formed.
Victory Presbyterian Church joined the Presbyterian Church in America in 1985. It became part of the Korean Southwest Presbytery. Elder Daw Jeum Kim was honored. He had an installation ceremony as Honorable Elder. Rev Ike Kim became the Education Pastor. He oversaw education and cell ministry.
New faces arrived in 1986. Evangelist Dong Wook Lee started serving. The second Deacon Ordination took place. Andrew Kim Jin Kook Suh and Peter Yoon were ordained. A College Group was organized showing their focus on students.
Rev Ike Kim founded the Korean Bible Presbyterian Church in 1987. Deacon Andrew Kim became an evangelist in cell ministry. Soon Du Ha started as an evangelist in administration.
The early 1990s brought more transitions. Rev Dong Wook Lee moved to Hacienda Korean Church in 1990. An Adult Group was organized. Evangelist Andrew Kim received his pastor ordination.
In 1991 Victory Presbyterian Church bought a new building at 4213 Monroe St. Jin Kook Suh and Peter Yoon were ordained as elders. James Kim was appointed as an evangelist for the Elementary Group.
The church started English worship services in August 1993. In 1994 they bought a new church building at 2515 W Beverly Blvd. Jimmy Kim became a new evangelist for high school and college students.
Victory Presbyterian Church had their first worship in the new building in 1995. Gye Won Sun was inaugurated as an elder. Victor Kim and Chang Soo Shin were ordained as deacons.
James Kim received his license to preach in 1996. Jimmy Kim also received his license to preach. James Kim received his pastor ordination. He became the Education Pastor.
The Victory Presbyterian Church joined with Hallelujah Mission Church in 1998. They worshiped at 510 N Buena Vista Ave in Burbank. In 1999 they returned to their original building.
In 2001 James Kim went to Korea for further study. Ike Kim became an Evangelism Pastor. After Ike Kim died Jung Hee Kim and II Joon Kang served.
The Victory Presbyterian Church merged with Manna Presbyterian Church in 2003. Andrew Kim became Visitation Pastor. Chang Seh Kim retired and James Kim became the senior pastor.
In 2005 Victor Gomez became the Hispanic Ministry pastor.
Victory Presbyterian Church continues to serve. It offers worship in multiple languages. It seeks to be a beacon of hope in Los Angeles.
