Was this humble plot of land once a refuge for those fleeing turmoil? Right here, in front of us, lies Nghĩa trang Giáo xứ Cao Thái. This cemetery isn’t just a resting place. It’s a testament to the resilience of faith and community. The year was 1954. Vietnam, caught in the throes of historical change, saw a massive exodus. Among those seeking solace in the south were Father Phêrô Trần Gia Vịnh and his parishioners from the Cao Mộc parish in Thái Bình. They yearned for a place to rebuild their lives, a place to call home. Their journey led them here to what is now Nghĩa trang Giáo xứ Cao Thái. Father Vịnh, a shepherd guiding his flock, sought refuge in places like Rạch Bắp and Xuân Hiệp. However, these locations proved unsuitable. Finally, in 1955, they found a temporary home in Long Phước. They built a church, a school, the cornerstones of their community. By 1967, Long Phước too grew unsafe. Again, they were uprooted, their journey ultimately leading them back to this very spot. Driven by faith, they carved out a new beginning, establishing the present-day Nghĩa trang Giáo xứ Cao Thái. It stands as a symbol of their unwavering spirit. Let their story remind us that even amidst chaos, hope takes root and faith can blossom.
