The SIB KL SunwayMas Centre also known as SMCC is a relatively new addition to the SIBKL family. Opened in mid-2012 it officially welcomed the public in November of that year. This community centre isn’t just another church building. It represents the expansion of the Sidang Injil Borneo Kuala Lumpur a church with deep roots in Borneo.
SIBKL’s story began in 1928 with three Australian missionaries. They journeyed to Sarawak establishing a base and spreading the Gospel. Their dedication bore fruit. Thousands embraced Christianity. The mission evolved becoming the Sidang Injil Borneo. This church grew and eventually expanded to West Malaysia.
The SIBKL English Congregation started small. In 1994 just 15 people gathered. By 1998 their numbers had swelled to 130. Then they moved to a larger space. Their congregation exploded reaching over 1500. Now they occupy four floors in Bangunan Yin. The need for more space prompted the acquisition of the SunwayMas Community Centre.
The story of its purchase is almost miraculous. During the 2008 economic downturn the building was up for sale. No one made an offer. The asking price was RM 8 million. Then the market crashed. SIBKL purchased the building for just RM 3.2 million. A remarkable blessing they say.
Today SIB KL SunwayMas Centre serves a thriving community. It’s a place of worship fellowship and growth. Its very existence speaks of resilience faith and a generous God. The building stands not only as a place of prayer but as a powerful symbol of faith’s enduring strength. It’s a story of answered prayers and unexpected bargains a true testament to the power of belief.
