Beneath the wide Manx sky, Stella Maris stands. This isn’t just any bend in the road. It’s a place where legends are made.

Stella Maris is more than asphalt and curves. It is a fleeting experience. It’s a crucial part of the Snaefell Mountain Course. This course hosts the Isle of Man TT and Manx Grand Prix. These races draw fans and racers alike.

Did you know Stella Maris is a gentle right-hand bend? It comes right before the infamous Ramsey Hairpin. For racers, it’s a moment of grace before a challenging turn.

Back in the day, racers weren’t too happy about the roads in Ramsey. But Stella Maris? That was different. The smooth surface and favorable banking made it a favorite.

Graham Walker, a racer from the 1930s, flew through Stella Maris at 130 km/h. John Surtees, in the 60s, called it a beautiful corner. He loved it because it sorted out the real racers.

Stella Maris has a spiritual side too. “Stella Maris” means “Star of the Sea”. It’s a title for Mary, the mother of Jesus. She is seen as a guiding light and protector. Especially for those who make their living on the sea.

Before GPS, sailors relied on stars to navigate. Mary, Star of the Sea, was their guide. She offered protection during stormy voyages. Even today, many churches and schools bear the name Stella Maris. It is to honor her guiding presence.

Now, consider the racers speeding toward Stella Maris. They leave the town of Ramsey behind. For them, Stella Maris presents a unique experience.

The racers appreciate Stella Maris’s well-maintained asphalt. Its banking aligns perfectly with the ideal racing line. This allows them to maintain speed. It allows them to prepare for the sharp turn ahead.

After Stella Maris comes Ramsey Hairpin. It requires a steep climb from Ramsey. In the early days, racers were happy to hit 80 km/h there. Today, they brake hard to navigate the hairpin.

Stella Maris and Ramsey Hairpin have a shared history. They were both part of the Highroads Course. They were part of the Four Inch Course. These courses hosted the Gordon Bennett Trial and the RAC Tourist Trophy from 1904 to 1922.

So, as you stand here, remember Stella Maris. It is more than just a bend. It’s a blend of speed, skill, and history. It’s a place where racers test their limits. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Isle of Man TT. It is a symbol of guidance for those at sea. A star on the road. A star of the sea.
