Have you ever wondered about a place gifted by a king? Right here before us stands the Saatwinkel Blumeshof a historic ensemble nestled by the Tegeler See. Built in 1835 as a residence for the actor Heinrich Blume this charming building has a rich history. In 1839 Johann Christian Schmock a former non-commissioned officer acquired it. He opened an inn in 1840. His widow ran the Blumeshof from 1859 to 1873. The Blumeshof changed hands several times. Anton Targatsch owned it in 1920. He even celebrated a fictional centenary in 1933. The Blumeshof was a popular destination until World War II disrupted its lively atmosphere. During the war Siemens employed Dutch workers who occupied the premises. After the war the Blumeshof and other local restaurants reopened. But the rise of onboard dining on excursion boats led to the decline of these local establishments. The large restaurant garden closed in 1973. It was converted into parking spaces for permanent campers. Boat moorings appeared along the shore. A small bar remained. It eventually closed in 1985 ending a 145-year tradition. The land was gifted to Blume around 1833 by the Prussian King. This fact was embellished into a story about a royal hunting lodge. A large commemorative plaque in front of the house points to this story. Despite it being known since 1986 that no such hunting lodge ever existed the plaque remains today. The Blumeshof stands as a testament to the rich history of Saatwinkel. A charming reminder of simpler times. It stands on the list of cultural monuments in Berlin Tegel. A fascinating glimpse into Berlin’s past. The Saatwinkel Blumeshof a place where history unfolds before your eyes. A place where kings’ gifts and tales of a fictional hunting lodge intertwine.
