A century ago industrial giants stood where we now stand in PankowPark. PankowPark wasn’t always a park. It was once the site of a bustling factory. Sigmund Bergmann established an electro-factory here in 1907. Wilhelmsruh lacked sufficient space. The rapidly expanding electro-industry needed more room. This area offered excellent transport links. The Nordbahn and Heidekrautbahn lines made it ideal. Over the years the factory expanded. Cable works steel processing plants machine and automobile factories all found a place here.

After World War II the site lay largely destroyed. It was transformed into VEB Bergmann-Borsig. Even during the GDR era it remained a centre of industrial production. Following reunification the site was taken over by ABB then Alstom. They expanded the facilities. Finally PankowPark emerged. Today you see the large now-listed warehouse buildings. They house small businesses training facilities and cultural institutions. New halls for Stadler’s wagon construction production stand alongside them. The park preserves a piece of Berlin’s industrial past. It showcases the area’s transformation from a manufacturing hub to a vibrant green space.

Notice the carefully planned landscaping. It’s not just pretty. The landscaping incorporates a sophisticated rainwater management system. This reflects Berlin’s commitment to sustainable urban development. The system ensures rainwater doesn’t overwhelm the city’s drainage. Instead the water is absorbed. This prevents flooding and reduces the need for expensive drainage systems. The park demonstrates how industrial heritage can blend with modern environmental practices.

Think of the workers who once toiled within these walls. They shaped Berlin’s industrial landscape. Their legacy lives on in PankowPark. This green space offers a reminder of the past. It serves as a place of recreation and reflection. PankowPark is more than just a park. It is a testament to Berlin’s resilience and its commitment to a greener future. Enjoy the park. Reflect on its remarkable history.
