The Thuringian Finanzministerium isn’t housed in a newly constructed building. It occupies the buildings of the former Blumenthal-Kaserne. This military barracks, named after Leonhard von Blumenthal, dates back to the late 1930s. The history of the Thuringian Finanzministerium is intertwined with the history of Thuringia itself. The ministry existed from 1920 to 1945, housed in Weimar’s Gelbe Schloss. After Thuringia’s re-establishment in 1990, the Thuringian Finanzministerium found its new home in Erfurt. The ministry’s responsibilities are vast. They manage everything from state properties and debts to forestry and state-owned businesses. They even handle the salaries of state officials and surveying matters. The Thuringian Finanzministerium is more than just a building. It is a vital organ of the state. It plays a crucial role in the financial health and stability of Thuringia. Its location in the former barracks adds another layer of historical significance to this important institution.
