“North Capital.” That is what Beijing means and near it lies Shijiaying Township. Shijiaying is a place that echoes with history. We are standing in Shijiaying Township. It is located in the northwestern part of Fangshan District. Fangshan is itself a district of the vast municipality of Beijing, China.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the landscape around us. Imagine farmers working the land as they have done for generations. They have been planting and harvesting. The air is fresh. It carries the scent of the earth.
Shijiaying Township is not just a geographical location. It’s a tapestry woven from threads of time and culture. Its story stretches back through decades of change. In 2020, the census recorded a population of just 3,364. That makes it a close-knit community.
Shijiaying’s story is one of shifting status and evolving borders. Once, it was part of the Jinjitai District. Later, it became an independent township in 1953. For a brief period, Shijiaying was integrated into Lianhua’an Township. It also became part of the Baihuashan People’s Commune. Think of these changes as the ebb and flow of a river.
In 1980, Jinjitai Village was transferred to Gongnong District. Twelve years later, it was transferred to Fangshan District. Finally, in 1993, Jinjitai Village returned to Shijiaying Township. This reunification marked a significant moment in the township’s history.
Today, Shijiaying administers twelve villages. Each has its own unique name and character. These villages are Yuanyangshui, Liulinshui, Yanglinshui, Qinglintai, and Qiulinpu. Then there is Lianhua’an, Caojiafang, and Shijiaying itself. Not to forget Dacunjian, Xiyuetai, Qingtujian, and Jinjitai. Each village contributes to the rich mosaic of Shijiaying.
