Welcome to the Kia Forum, an iconic venue in Inglewood, California. This isn’t just another arena. The Kia Forum is a landmark with a rich history deeply intertwined with Los Angeles’ sports and entertainment culture.
Opening its doors on December 30, 1967, the Forum quickly became known as the “Fabulous Forum”. Architect Charles Luckman created a groundbreaking design without internal support pillars. This made it unique for an indoor arena of its size.
From 1967 to 1999, the Kia Forum was home to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Kings. These teams captivated fans and contributed to the Forum’s legendary status. The Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA also called the Forum home from 1997 to 2001.
Alongside Madison Square Garden, the Kia Forum became one of the best-known indoor sports venues in the U.S. The Lakers’ success and the presence of Hollywood celebrities added to its allure. The Kia Forum hosted the 1972 and 1983 NBA All-Star Games and the 1981 NHL All-Star Game. It was also the site of the 1984 Olympic basketball competition.
But the Kia Forum wasn’t just about sports. It was a premier music venue. Aretha Franklin was the first musical act here in January 1968. Queen, Led Zeppelin, and many other iconic artists graced its stage.
In 2000, the Faithful Central Bible Church acquired the Kia Forum. They used it for church services and leased it for various events. In 2012, the Madison Square Garden Company purchased the Forum for $23.5 million. They announced plans to renovate it into a world-class concert venue.
The Kia Forum underwent a $50 million renovation. The acoustics were dramatically improved. The locker rooms were redesigned into artist dressing rooms. The floor was transformed into a general admission section.
The Kia Forum reopened in January 2014 with six sold-out concerts by the Eagles. On September 24, 2014, the Forum was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
On March 24, 2020, Steve Ballmer, owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, purchased the Kia Forum from MSG for $400 million. In April 2022, Kia Motors acquired the naming rights and it became the Kia Forum.
The Kia Forum can accommodate up to 17,500 guests. Its bowl arrangement ensures great views from every seat. The “star-filled” LED ceiling adds a theatrical sparkle to every event.
