Notice the unique shape. The north and south towers create the Chinese character “之”. This design represents the overlap of books and history. It also integrates Lingnan architectural elements like arcades. This reflects Guangzhou’s unique architectural style.
The Guangzhou Library is huge. It covers 98,000 square meters. Inside, find 8.43 million items. This includes books and digital resources. There are 4,000 seats available. Also, there are 500 computers for public use. The whole building has Wi-Fi.
In 1927, the idea for a municipal library honoring Sun Yat-sen arose. Overseas Chinese donated funds. Construction began in 1929. Despite war and renaming, the vision endured. In 1982, the Guangzhou Library officially opened.
