Have you ever noticed the towering statue outside the Church of Christ the King? It’s a powerful symbol of this grand building and its importance to the community. Christ the King was opened in 1933. It was one of the largest churches in Dublin at the time. It’s in the heart of Cabra, a suburb just outside the city centre. The church was designed by Mr. Robinson, and it was built in the Romanesque Revival style, with a large, imposing bell tower. Christ the King stands on Offaly Road, and a school stands right next to it. What makes this church particularly special is its incredible statue of Christ the King. It was sculpted in Trieste and had a long journey to Dublin. The statue was buried during the war for safety. After the war, it was carefully packed in sections and shipped to Dublin. It wasn’t until the 1950s that it was finally on display in its rightful place outside the church.
