How about a look inside the historic Convocation Center? This multi-purpose arena has been a cornerstone of the University of Texas at San Antonio since 1975. The Convocation Center is home to the UTSA Roadrunners men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams.

Known affectionately as “The Convo” and the “Bird Cage”, this arena has a seating capacity of 4,080. It is more than just a sports venue. The Convocation Center has hosted numerous events. These events include high school playoff games, university convocation ceremonies, concerts, speeches, and career fairs. It even served as the venue for UTSA Commencement ceremonies.

Imagine the roar of the crowd during the Southland Conference men’s basketball tournament. The Convocation Center hosted it in 1992 and 2004. Think of the echoes of legendary bands like AC/DC and Black Sabbath. They once played right here.

The Convocation Center saw 2021 NCAA Women’s Basketball First and Second Round Games. It has also hosted several conference basketball and volleyball tournaments.

The Convocation Center features a Robins Biocushion maple floor. It also boasts Hussey retractable seating. Two auxiliary courts offer additional space. A 10′ x 19′ 10mm LED videoboard enhances the fan experience. Two Daktronics LED end-wall scoreboards keep everyone updated. A center-hung scoreboard displays all the action. Eight collapsible goals complete the setup.

UTSA’s athletic journey began in 1981 with its first men’s basketball team. The Roadrunners steadily climbed conferences. They reached Conference USA in 2013-14. The team made four NCAA Tournament appearances. They also appeared in one CIT tourney.

Derrick Gervin and Devin Brown once graced this court. Both players even reached the NBA. Their numbers hang from the rafters.

The Convocation Center atmosphere is unique. The lower bowl seating puts fans close to the action. The student section adds energy to the game. Banners commemorate tournament appearances. Trophy cases chronicle UTSA’s athletic history.

The Convocation Center is located in the heart of UTSA’s Main Campus. Fans can park for free on game days in designated lots.
