Who was the “Founding Father of Bangladesh”? Here at the Bangabandhu Şeyh Muciburrahman Büstü, we remember this great leader. This bronze bust, erected in 2021, commemorates Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, affectionately known as Bangabandhu, or “Friend of Bengal”. He led Bangladesh to independence in 1971. He served as the country’s first president and later, prime minister. His leadership and vision were cut short by his tragic assassination in 1975. The Bangabandhu Şeyh Muciburrahman Büstü stands not only as a tribute to a national hero but also as a symbol of the strong friendship between Bangladesh and Turkey.
