Nestled amidst the rolling hills of Gyeonggi Province lies Anyang-si, a dynamic city pulsating with life. Anyang-si is a satellite city of Seoul. It’s about 21 km south of the capital. Anyang-si’s history dates back to 415. The name “Anyang” originates from Anyang mall. This mall was established by Wang Geon, the first king of Goryeo. In 900, Wang Geon, then a general, envisioned a temple amidst the serene landscape of Samsung Mountain. “Anyang,” a Buddhist term, signifies a heavenly land overflowing with joy and freedom. Anyang-si is a testament to its rich history. This city embodies a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. Anyang-si boasts a population of nearly 600,000. It stands as the 20th largest city in South Korea. The city is cradled by seven mountains, with Mt. Suri being the most prominent. Anyang-si is divided into two districts: Manan and Dongan. Anyang-si also played a role in a significant historical event. In 2007, 23 Korean hostages, freed from Taliban captivity in Afghanistan, were brought to Sam Anyang Hospital.
