Gazing upon Delhi’s skyline, have you noticed a vibrant green streak weaving its way through the urban sprawl? That, my friends, is the Delhi Metro’s Green Line. It’s more than just a transportation artery; it’s a lifeline pulsing with stories, connecting hearts and histories. The Green Line made its grand debut in two stages. The first, a 15.1 km stretch from Inderlok to Mundka, opened on April 3, 2010. Later, on August 27, 2011, a 3.5 km branch connected Ashok Park Main to Kirti Nagar. The Green Line is unique. It’s the first in Delhi’s metro system to utilize standard gauge, unlike its broad gauge brethren – the Red, Yellow, and Blue lines. Though shorter than other lines, the Green Line is a crucial connector to these lines, serving bustling commercial hubs and residential areas. Think Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Nangloi, and Mundka. The Green Line isn’t content to stay static. It stretches its reach, constantly evolving. In 2012, plans were approved to extend the line from Mundka to Bahadurgarh in Haryana. This 11.18 km extension, inaugurated in 2018, added seven new stations. Four reside in Delhi, and three in Bahadurgarh. The Green Line even boasts a clever interchange solution. Steel platforms built between Punjabi Bagh and Shivaji Park create a seamless transfer to the Pink Line. This innovative connection opened in 2022, showcasing the Green Line’s commitment to efficiency and connectivity. But the story doesn’t end there. The Green Line has its sights set on a future connection to Indraprastha, a project slated for completion by 2029. This 12.37 km extension will further solidify the Green Line’s place as a vital part of Delhi’s vibrant tapestry. The Green Line is more than just steel and concrete. It’s a testament to innovation, a symbol of progress, and a vibrant thread weaving its way through the heart of Delhi.
