In 2003 the Pauluskirche a church in Freiburg’s city center faced a crisis. Shrinking congregations and changing demographics threatened its future. The Evangelical City Mission of Freiburg saw an opportunity. Could they create a church for those who wouldn’t typically walk through its doors?
Doubt lingered. Was there a need for such a church? Could they attract a congregation? Funding was a major concern. But negotiations with the church and the Evangelical Church of Baden secured five years of rent-free use of the Pauluskirche. A new type of church a personal community was approved.
