“Front lawn” is what many Detroiters call a special place. This place is Roosevelt Park. This park isn’t just any green space. It sits nestled between Corktown and Mexicantown. These are two of Detroit’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

Roosevelt Park serves as a bridge. It connects the Mexican and Irish cultures. Once, festivals and celebrations filled this park with life. Over time, the park fell into disrepair. Programming dwindled. The renovations at Michigan Central Station began. The city started planning improvements for Roosevelt Park.

The Greater Corktown Framework Plan identified Roosevelt Park as a priority. That was back in 2020. Residents wanted it improved. The plan recommended rerouting Vernor Hwy. The goal was to create a unified parcel of land.

Funding came from the American Rescue Plan Act. The General Services Division commenced the Roosevelt Park Improvement Project. Community outreach involved Corktown, Mexicantown, and Hubbard-Richard. Months of public input shaped the design. Construction kicked off in July 2022.

One year later, Detroit saw its new Roosevelt Park. It was unified and revitalized. It’s an old familiar place. Yet, it offers a new experience. Come and see for yourselves what makes Roosevelt Park so special. It stands as a testament to community and renewal.
