Nambu Yoichiro Hall honors the remarkable Yoichiro Nambu. He was a distinguished professor at Osaka University. Nambu received the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physics. He passed away in July 2015.
The hall resides on the second floor. It’s part of the School of Science Building J. This building is also known as the Education and Research Exchange Building.
Inside Nambu Yoichiro Hall, 142 fixed seats form a fan shape. A blackboard stands on the podium. It is perfect for science graduate studies. A sliding partition borders the Session Area. Opening it expands the seating. Movable seats increase capacity to 250.
The Session Area hosts poster sessions. It also welcomes other gatherings. Just outside, the Collaboration Space offers a place for smaller meetings. It’s ideal for gatherings and discussions.
The salon displays articles. These were left by Professor Nambu. Poster descriptions of the graduate school are also exhibited.

Yoichiro Nambu’s life was full of achievements. He was born in Tokyo in 1921. He obtained his DSc in Physics from the University of Tokyo in 1952. Nambu then moved to the University of Chicago in 1954. He became an American citizen in 1970.
Nambu made significant contributions. These were to theoretical physics. They include spontaneous symmetry breaking. Also color gauging and string theory were fields he contributed to. He received many awards. The Dannie Heineman Prize in 1970. The National Medal of Science in 1982. The Wolf Foundation Prize in Physics in 1994. And of course, the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2008.
