Was it a whisper of history or the wind sighing through broken panes? Here before us stands the Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig a poignant testament to a bygone era. This manor house in Görlitz whispers stories of ownership stretching back to 1305 when Heinrich von Salza was its first recorded owner. The Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig wasn’t always alone. It was once part of a larger complex a thriving Rittergut.

The Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig’s history is a tapestry woven with threads of different families. Jakob Schleiffe acquired it in 1410 passing it on to his eldest son. Albrecht von Tschirnhaus then became its owner. He held it for six years before transferring it to the Canitz family. The Frenzel family owned the Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig by 1499. They sold it within the family in 1526 to Görlitz mayor Peter Thile.

Conflict and division marked the Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig’s 16th century. Following Thile’s death in 1535 a twelve-year inheritance dispute ensued. King Ferdinand I the King of Bohemia and Margrave of Upper Lusatia intervened. His decree divided the Rittergut. Paul Schritter and Caspar Sibeth received the Oberes Rittergut. David Tyle inherited the Niederhof. Peter and Elias Tyle took over the Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig. Part of the Nieder-Deutsch-Ossig and Mittel-Deutsch-Ossig estates formed Dominium Mittel-Deutsch-Ossig II.

The Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig sadly fell victim to the ravages of time. The post-Wende era brought significant changes. The area was depopulated starting in 1988. Large parts of Deutsch Ossig were sacrificed to brown coal mining between 1990 and 1992. The Rittergut Nieder-Deutsch-Ossig and Dominium Mittel-Deutsch-Ossig were completely lost.

Today the Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig and its neighbour the Herrenhaus Ober-Deutsch-Ossig stand empty. They are sadly left to decay. These once-grand manors are now silent witnesses to a vanished village a forgotten way of life. The Herrenhaus Mittelhof Deutsch Ossig reminds us of the changing landscape and the fragility of the past. It stands as a poignant reminder in the heart of Görlitz.
