How about a round of baseball? Specifically UC San Diego Tritons baseball. Welcome to Triton Ballpark. This is the home of the UC San Diego Tritons baseball team. The Tritons compete in NCAA Division I. They are a member of the Big West Conference.

Triton Ballpark has a great history. The stadium got upgrades in 2011. These upgrades included lights. The first-ever night game was played here on January 29, 2011. A scoreboard was added in 2013.

Before the 2015 season, Triton Ballpark underwent a significant renovation. The renovation cost 6.89 million dollars. A permanent grandstand replaced bleacher seating. Restrooms were added. Sunken dugouts were built. A press box was constructed. A players’ clubhouse was added down the right field line.

The clubhouse is named for former UCSD chancellor Marye Anne Fox. It includes locker rooms and offices. You will also find showers and laundry facilities here. There is a Hall of Fame and a players’ lounge. The official re-opening and clubhouse dedication took place on April 10, 2015.

The field itself has specific dimensions. The distance to left field is 330 feet. Center field stretches out to 400 feet. Right field mirrors left field at 330 feet. The field’s surface is grass offering a classic baseball experience.

Looking back, the Tritons won a league championship in 2014. The 2015 season started with new admission policies. For the opening series against Western Oregon, entry was free. Dogs and coolers are no longer allowed at Triton Ballpark.

The UC San Diego Tritons baseball program began in 1969. The team’s overall record is 931–682–10. Eric Newman is the head coach. He is in his 14th season. The team colors are blue and gold.

The Tritons have appeared in several Division II tournaments. In 2009, they reached the Division II College World Series for the first time. They finished fourth. In 2010, they had a 54–8 record. They reached the Division II national championship.

Like most UCSD athletic programs, Triton baseball transitioned to NCAA Division I Big West Conference in 2020. They won’t be eligible for the Division I College World Series. This lasts until the reclassification period ends.

Notable alumni include Kyle Abbott. He played for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Philadelphia Phillies. Vance Albitz played for the St. Louis Cardinals. Alon Leichman is an Olympian. He is a member of the Israel national baseball team. He is also an assistant pitching coach for the Cincinnati Reds.
