In 1898, St Patrick’s RC Church opened its doors to the Anderston community. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and the rich history of Glasgow. Designed by the renowned London architect Peter Paul Pugin, St Patrick’s RC Church showcases the elegance of the early decorated Gothic style. The church’s stunning high altar, crafted from white marble and supported by Connemara marble columns, immediately draws the eye. Above it, a magnificent cupola of Caen stone crowns the throne. The altar, reredos, and the great east window, designed by John Hardman of Birmingham, add to the church’s splendor. St Patrick’s RC Church also boasts a unique musical heritage. Its current JW Walker organ incorporates pipework from the original Henry Willis organ, installed in 1898. This blend of old and new reflects the church’s ability to adapt and thrive through the years. The surrounding area changed dramatically in the 1960s with urban clearances to make way for a new motorway. This left St Patrick’s RC Church as one of the few surviving 19th-century buildings in Anderston. Today, St Patrick’s RC Church continues to serve its community, offering a place of worship and solace. The church is open daily, welcoming visitors to experience its beauty and history. Come, step inside St Patrick’s RC Church and discover the stories held within its sacred walls. Witness the architectural grandeur and feel the presence of generations past.
