In the vibrant tapestry of San Diego’s history, Mount Olive Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith and community. Mount Olive Baptist Church began its journey on October 18, 1964. A small group gathered in Southeast San Diego. Their mission was to establish a beacon of hope. They envisioned a place where the unsaved could find Jesus Christ. Among these founding members were Mrs. G. Blankenship, Mrs. H. Porter, Mrs. A. Fitzgerald, Mrs. L. Scott, Miss E. Blankenship, and Miss Jannie Harris. Guiding them were Rev. Joseph Scott, Dr. Charles Hampton, and Rev. Marvin C. Hines. The group voted to form a new church. They christened it Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Joseph Scott was chosen as the first pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Today, Mount Olive Baptist Church remains a cornerstone of the community. It continues to serve as a spiritual home for many. Their mission remains to share the good news of Jesus Christ. They strive to equip disciples for ministry through evangelism, preaching, and teaching. Mount Olive Baptist Church embraces its role as “One Big Family.” This reflects the close-knit community it fosters.
