Envision a university born from a dream, deferred by conflict, but ultimately realized. That’s Al Quds University, a beacon of Palestinian education in Jerusalem.

Al Quds University began as a vision in 1931. The idea was to establish “Al Aqsa” University. However, political turmoil and occupation delayed its realization for decades.

Now, standing before you, Al Quds University represents resilience. It officially opened in 1995. It is a merger of several colleges in and around Jerusalem. The College of Daawa and Religious Principles and the College of Medical Professions are among the original colleges.

Al Quds University now has multiple campuses. The main campus is in Abu Dis. Other campuses are in the Old City, Sheikh Jarrah and Beit Hanina. Each campus contributes unique programs and resources to Al Quds University.

The Abu Dis campus spans 47 acres. It features the Andalusian Garden and museums. The Abu Jihad Center is one such museum. The Said Khoury IT Center offers advanced technology resources.

The Old City campus has Islamic architecture. It is located near the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The campus provides a vital educational presence. Al Quds University opened the first Palestinian public university here in 2015.

In Sheikh Jarrah, the Hind Al-Husseini College for Women focuses on arts and culture. It began as an orphanage. Hind al-Husseini founded it. She rescued children from the Deir Yassin massacre.

The Beit Hanina campus houses the Faculty of Business and Economics. Al Quds Bard College is also on this campus. It is in partnership with Bard College.

Al Quds University is more than just buildings. It is a symbol of Palestinian identity. It offers over 100 programs. These programs include medicine, law and engineering.

The university has faced many challenges. The Israeli West Bank barrier impacts operations. There have been army attacks on the Abu Dis campus. Students and staff face arrests and intimidation.

Despite these challenges, Al Quds University persists. It maintains international partnerships. These partnerships include dual degree programs with Bard College.

Al Quds University emphasizes community engagement. It operates legal aid clinics. It also has an educational television station.

The Al-Quds Academy for Global Justice promotes human rights. It also promotes international criminal law.

Al Quds University’s library holds nearly 100000 books. Resources are available in both English and Arabic.
