LILLIAD Learning Center Innovation opened in September 2016. The opening followed two and a half years of renovation. This project was part of the Grand Lille Campus plan. The Hauts-de-France region commissioned it. The European Metropolis of Lille also supported the project. The European Union and the French State contributed too. The goal was to modernize the old university library. An extension was added to the historic structure.
Auer Weber designed the project. Their design transformed the original library. It became a new kind of facility. The architectural signature was preserved. LILLIAD is meant to spread knowledge in all forms. It focuses on innovation.
LILLIAD combines three units. There is a renovated library. It prioritizes sociability and collaborative work. An event space hosts university events. Academic work and partnerships take place here. Xperium is a demonstration space. Here you can experience science in action. You can also see its applications to society.
The building is flexible and dynamic. It has shared workspaces that connect. These spaces are fully equipped. You can reserve them online. They encourage sociability and relaxation. There is even a cafeteria called 3,14. The teaching innovation area helps staff use new teaching methods. It helps them implement innovative approaches. Light and acoustics were carefully planned. The building guides you from lively spaces to studious ones.
LILLIAD Learning Center Innovation welcomes everyone. This includes university members and companies. Visionaries and secondary schools can visit. The general public is welcome too. LILLIAD aims to develop a culture of innovation. It fosters an environment for innovation. It connects public research and academic programs. Xperium promotes research partnerships. It offers interactive experiences. These experiences are based on scientific themes. They are designed to be astonishing and funny. High school students and business people visit Xperium. It facilitates links between research and industry.
The library hub specializes in science and technology. It provides access to online resources. The collections cover applied science and management. It includes science and human sciences. Life sciences and economic sciences are included too. General topics and hobbies are also covered. Resources are available on-site. University members can access them remotely. The public can get an access card. A documentary collection dedicated to innovation is in the Atrium. This collection is accessible to everyone.
LILLIAD Learning Center Innovation renovated the old library. It kept the old round exterior facade. This facade now forms the top two floors of LILLIAD. The library dates back to 1965. No\u00ebl Le Maresquier designed the original building. It was conceived as the heart of the university campus.
