This old building breathes history. Don’t you feel it? The Kulturfabrik Moabit stands before you a testament to Berlin’s vibrant past and present.

In 1911 Ernst Scharnke built this very structure for the Wertheim department store. It housed a bustling meat processing plant. It even contained a cracker factory. Imagine the smells the sounds the sheer energy of this place back then. This building was a vital part of Berlin’s industrial heart. It wasn’t just one thing. It was many things. A multifaceted hub of activity.

For seventeen years silence fell. The windows and doors were bricked up. This once-thriving factory fell into disrepair. It was a sad sight. A ghost of its former self.

Then in 1991 something extraordinary happened. Negotiations with the Berlin Senate led to a rebirth. The Kulturfabrik Moabit was born. Artists residents and students came together. They formed a collective. They breathed life back into this forgotten space.

Several associations were formed. The Kulturfabrik Lehrter Strasse 35 e V. became the umbrella organization. Others included the Fabriktheater Moabit e V. the Filmrauschpalast e V. and Slaughterhouse e V. They still work together. They share this space. They share a vision.

Today the Kulturfabrik is more than just a building. It is Moabit’s only socio-cultural center. It houses a theater a cinema concert spaces and a cafe. It provides childcare and youth activities.

It’s a place where creativity thrives. Where the community gathers. It’s where the past and the present collide. It’s a place that truly embodies the spirit of Berlin. A place where you can see the results of years of dedication and hard work by volunteers and employees.

The Kulturfabrik Moabit. It’s more than just a building. It’s a story. It’s a community. It’s a vibrant heart of Moabit. And it’s a place you won’t soon forget.
