One story claims the spirit of the deity Iwashimizu Hachimangu resides within a small shrine here, placed at the request of Emperor Uda himself. Another whispers of the vengeful ghost of Taira no Masakado, a samurai who rebelled against the emperor in the 10th century. His remains are said to be buried within Yawataishzuka, his restless spirit a constant threat. The true origins of the legends are lost to time.
