The building in front of you was a place of unspeakable terror. It was here, in this very building, that the SS, the notorious ‘Schutzstaffel’ of the Nazi regime, established a branch in 1933. This was not your usual police station. This was a place where fear and brutality reigned. In the basements, deep beneath the surface, a dark and horrifying world unfolded.
The cells were cold and damp and reeked of fear. Opponents of the Nazi regime, innocent people who dared to speak out against the oppression, were dragged into these cellars. You can imagine them, their faces etched with terror as they were interrogated by the SS, tortured, and forced to betray their loved ones.
This plaque serves as a grim reminder of the atrocities committed in this building. We must remember the victims and their suffering. It was a place of immense suffering, and it is our responsibility to ensure that such horrors never happen again. We owe it to the victims and to future generations to remember this dark chapter in history.
