Child Development Center

Hidden within the vibrant tapestry of San Diego, the Child Development Center at Miramar College plays a vital role. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. This center is a testament to the San Diego Community College District’s commitment to nurturing young minds. The Child Development Center isn’t simply a daycare. It’s a living laboratory, seamlessly blending education and care. Children from six weeks to five years old benefit from a rich curriculum designed to foster their social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic, and physical growth. The Child Development Center is deeply rooted in the belief that children thrive in an environment of exploration and choice, where consistent limits guide them towards self-direction and responsibility. Here, learning is an adventure. Children engage in activities spanning language and literacy, creative expression, science, math, sensory exploration, and motor skill development. The center’s philosophy embraces both active and quiet pursuits, child-led and teacher-guided experiences, and group and individual interactions. But the Child Development Center’s magic doesn’t stop with the children. It extends to aspiring educators. San Diego Community College District students gain invaluable hands-on experience, observing, interacting, and applying their classroom knowledge. They become active participants in the children’s learning journey, supervised by experienced teachers who guide their development. These students even craft and implement their own lesson plans, further solidifying their understanding of child development principles. Sadly, the Miramar College Child Development Center is currently undergoing renovations and is expected to reopen in Fall 2025. But the spirit of the center lives on, a beacon of educational excellence for children and future educators alike.
