A sleek glass giant piercing the Montreal skyline. That’s the Telus Tower. This isn’t just another office building. It’s a piece of Montreal’s history.
Initially known as CIL House it was built between 1960 and 1962. Canadian Industries Limited commissioned the construction. The renowned architect Gordon Bunshaft designed it. He also designed Lever House in New York City. Greenspoon Freedlander and Dunne were the local architects on the project.
The tower stands tall at 135.6 meters 445 feet. It has 34 stories. In the 1960s Montreal’s financial center shifted. The CIL House became an annex for the Bank of Montreal. It added a main banking branch. Dorchester Boulevard West became a financial hub. Major Canadian banks and insurance companies had offices there.
Later CIL moved its headquarters to Ontario. The Royal Trust then owned the building. They had their head office there. The name Royal Trust Tower is now associated with a different building in Toronto.
Today Telus occupies the building. The Montreal operations of Telus are located here. Telus Health Solutions also has its head office here. Many other companies have offices in the Telus Tower. Accenture Roche Canada Life and Bank of Montreal have a presence here. The building has been renovated. It offers modern workspaces and amenities. A state-of-the-art conference center is available. The Telus Tower is a modern symbol in Montreal’s dynamic financial district. A testament to the city’s growth and evolution.
