Ever wondered how a rubber estate transformed into a bustling township? That’s the story of Bandar Kinrara. This area in Puchong Selangor began its journey as Kinrara Estate a rubber plantation.
Bandar Kinrara’s development started in 1991. Perumahan Kinrara Berhad a member of I&P Group Sdn Berhad spearheaded the project. Back then access was limited. The only route was via Jalan Puchong. It then led to Kinrara Army Camp road.
Bandar Kinrara 1 focused on low-cost terrace houses. Bandar Kinrara 2 followed with double-storey terraces. The construction of the Bukit Jalil Highway changed everything. It allowed Bandar Kinrara to expand on both sides of the road. An underpass connected these sections.
Kinrara is divided into nine sections BK 1 to BK 9. Sections BK 1 to BK 3 are north of the Bukit Jalil Highway towards Puchong. Sections BK 4 to BK 9 are on the highway’s southern side.
Before Bandar Kinrara existed this area was also used for tin mining. Tin mining licenses in Puchong expired in 1985.
In 2008 a Giant shopping complex opened. It brought more convenience to residents of Bandar Kinrara.
Bandar Kinrara offers various facilities. Kinrara Academy Oval is an international cricket ground. There is a youth center with futsal arenas and badminton courts. Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve serves as a natural buffer zone to the south. The state government has re-gazetted it as a permanent reserve.
The IPD Serdang Police District Headquarters is in Bandar Kinrara 5. Near the police headquarters is the Kinrara Golf Club with 18 holes. It offers resorts tennis courts swimming pool and a fitness center. Hotel accommodations are also available.
Masjid Al-Ehsan serves as the main mosque. You can find it in BK 5. The Sri Maha Mariamman Hindu Temple is in BK 1. Mongkon Chakawan a Thai Buddhist Temple is in BK 2/7.
Transportation has greatly improved in Bandar Kinrara. The Sri Petaling Line passes through Bandar Kinrara. Residents in BK 1 and BK 9 can use the Alam Sutera station. Those in BK 2 to BK 8 can access the Kinrara BK 5 station.
Bandar Kinrara provides many educational institutions. These include SK Seksyen 1 and 2 Bandar Kinrara. Other schools are SJK(T) Kinrara SJK(C) Yak Chee and SRA BK 5. Secondary schools include SMK Seksyen 1 3 and 4 Bandar Kinrara.
Bandar Kinrara is accessible via several major expressways. These are the Damansara–Puchong Expressway the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 and others. It is 19 km from Kuala Lumpur City Centre. It is also close to Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya.
